A plain saree or dupatta can become a festive showstopper with a few sparkling lines. Glitter cones are widely used as a glitter outliner for fabric, adding shine to hand-painted motifs, borders and pallus. Here is how to do it with Glittercone glitter cones.
What you need
- A washed and ironed saree, dupatta or kurti (cotton, silk, georgette or chiffon)
- Glittercone glitter cones in your chosen shades
- A fabric pencil or tailor’s chalk
- A sheet of cardboard or plastic to place under the fabric
- Optional: fabric paints for filling designs
Step-by-step method
- Wash and dry the fabric first so the glitter sticks to clean fibres.
- Stretch the fabric flat over cardboard and pin or tape the edges so it does not move.
- Draw your design lightly with a fabric pencil: paisleys, florals, peacocks and mandalas look beautiful.
- Paint first (optional). If you are filling the motifs with fabric paint, let the paint dry before outlining.
- Outline with the glitter cone. Squeeze gently and trace along your pencil lines in one smooth movement.
- Add dots and details. Small dots along borders give a classic, embroidered look.
- Dry flat. Leave the fabric undisturbed until the glitter is completely dry before folding or moving it.
Design ideas

- Silver dots scattered across a navy georgette saree
- Peacock motif on the pallu, outlined in green and gold
- Mandala patches on a plain cotton kurti
- Name or initials on a dupatta for a wedding or haldi function
Caring for glitter-decorated fabric
Handle decorated pieces gently. We recommend dry cleaning or a gentle hand wash in cold water, without scrubbing the glitter area. Iron on the reverse side, and never iron directly on the glitter. Always check the instructions on your pack and test on a small hidden area first.
